NIBEDITA CENTRE FOR CHALLENGED CHILDREN

The aim and objectives of Nibedita Centre for Challenged Children is to train the children to be socially adaptable, self dependent, accommodative It has come a long way since its inception in 1973 and all modern facilities for counseling and training are now available at this centre. The centre offers its services at two levels : - Outpatient & Day Care.

Both services include diagnosis, treatment, psychotherapy or behaviour therapy, cognitive therapy and counseling. Diagnosis is arrived at through multiple techniques which include medical and clinical examination, interviewing parents or guardians of the patients, psychological assessment, and observation of the patient’s behaviour and analysis of case history.

Treatment

Psychotherapy works towards personality growth in the direction of maturity, competence and self-actualization.
Psychotherapeutic technique adopted at the centre for all patients are tailor made to suit the needs of patient. This also
includes pharmaco therapy, if necessary, after consultation with a psychiatrist.

Following techniques are followed

Group Therapy / Play Therapy / Hydro Therapy / Milieu Therapy / Individual Therapy / Music Therapy / Socio Therapy & Yoga and Gym.

Pre-vocational and vocational training is also provided to the day-care scholars along with these techniques. Elaborate cultural activities and sports programmes have been developed. Counseling is provided to the child, parents or guardians and teachers when needed to solve the educational problem.

Therapeutic activities and Educational Training Programme

1. Activities are planned to develop physical and social ability of the children together with demonstration of love and tenderness, free expression of the child’s feelings of affection and impulse for aggression.

2. Release from feeling of anxiety, guilt, inferiority and insecurity.

3. Opportunities for the child to become socially at ease and acceptable to the community.

Special schooling is done usually at 4 levels : pre-school or nursery class,
elementary primary, elementary intermediate and the junior class

Currently Day-Care service is provided to 55 children.
